Re: 3D printing???

If I won the lottery, my dream setup would be built around 3D modeling in an open-source environment, then 3D printing to making molds. Get the profit out of prop making, and make it so anyone with a 3D printer can produce their own molds and get whatever pieces they want... I don't have the time/sp...

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

Still haven't seen a ticket price yet, either. It would sure help with the planning and budgeting if we could find out if we have a place to change and how much the tickets will be. I'm on call that weekend and will have to get someone to cover for me. Really need to know if I can even afford to go...

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

Has anyone talked to Chris Jackson or anyone else with the show on behlf of the 70th? I've not gotten a response since the first couple weeks after the date/location announcement was made (and that was just to say 'it's too early to say what we'll do with you guys, check back later'), the most recen...

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

I don't know if the 501st pays for their space, but RL always has had to.

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

I'm new to all of this but when you all talk about ticket prices you're not talking about paying to appear in costume right? Even if you go in costume, you still have to pay admission. We've typically gotten a slight discount (which lately has been the same as the earliest preregistration price), b...

Re: Disney to buy Lucasfilm - Episode 7 due in 2015

I'll be following this closely as well. I've read every book that takes place after Return of the Jedi and would hate for them to mess up what I consider "canon." But I suppose our fate is in their hands. Post ROTJ EU is toast... Lucas always said it was fair game if he decided to make mo...

Re: Clone Wars style gauntlets

Well, today was the vac forming class at Hammerspace workshop, so I took the pieces for a test run. They just had out thin plastic, but I figured it was good for a test run. http://i1307.photobucket.com/albums/s594/gandalfbmg/Jedi%20Gauntlet%20Build/AFD2C878-DB28-46F9-89E1-B409A66A7BC5-15466-0000119...

Re: Clone Wars style gauntlets

So Zazarus took these to work and went to work on them with the belt sander to try and smooth them out a bit. The stuff proved a little too stonelike, so after a while we decided to do a coat or two of bondo over it and sand it and work it smooth that way, then do a really thin coat of the foam coat...

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

What hotels are around the area. Should we try to get a block of rooms. The hotels within walking distance (i.e. 1-3 blocks) of the convention center are the Downtown Marriott, the Holiday Inn Downtown Aladin, The Crowne Plaza Downtown, and Hilton President (the last one here is about halfway betwe...

Re: Planet ComiCon moving to Bartle Hall

I don't wonder if we shouldn't set up a cross group committee for coordinating SW events, display/table space, etc. it's hard enough for one person to get a response from the show runner, so having a committee with different pieces run by different folks, one of whom's job is to be the contact with ...

Re: Clone Wars style gauntlets

Well, I've finally gotten the 'top' half roughed out. I ordered some of the Foam Coat stuff too and it's on the way. Knowing that I was a little less careful this time so the cuts are a lot less smooth. I'll make it up on the filling/sanding. I'm not quite skilled with the hot foam cutter yet, and i...
