I don't know if any of you saw this on RebelScum.com or on the Legion boards but...

Chicago would be a way cool place to have it. That's as close to the midwest as they will probably get.

Why is it whenever they say "midwest" its always east of the Mississippi?
Its like most people think the county pauses at the Mississippi River and then starts up again west of the rockies and all the states in between are ignored.
It sure aint the "middle" of the country nor is it "west" of the middle of the country.
They could do an event like that in St. Louis or Kansas City and it would be almost exactly center of the country.

i feel
i think it is because while most people have heard of st. louis and kc, they only think of them as "cattle towns" still and that most people in this area are still hill people and that the population concentrations just don't justify an event of that size. just my two cents.
Peace is a lie; there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.

Yeah, when looking at major cons, you have to consider things like what the local airport is like. Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the biggest and busiest (Dragoncon) as is Denver (Celebration 2), Indianapolis Int (Celebration 3), LAX (Celebration 4), and O'Hare (Possible Celebration 5). It's also good to consider the driving location, which is why Indy was so primo a spot for a Central US Celebration. It has many interstates leading from several areas around the Central US into it.

Here is the latest blurb I hear about CV. This is from a paper in Baltimore, MD.
Baltimore has a shot of snagging a "Star Wars" fan convention that would rank among the city's largest gatherings, drawing as many as 35,000.
Lucasfilm Ltd., creator of the "Star Wars" series, is eyeing Baltimore for a four-day convention to be held either spring 2009 or spring 2010. Winning the convention would boost Baltimore's tourism business because of its size and media attention surrounding "Star Wars," one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons, local tourism experts said.
"It would be a great coup for Baltimore," said Melissa "Missy" Geppi-Bowersox, executive vice president of Geppi's Entertainment Museum. The Camden Yards pop culture museum houses many "Star Wars" collectibles and is expected to draw attendees from the convention. "We're talking about generations upon generations who loved the movies," Geppi-Bowersox said.
Baltimore is competing with Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis and Orlando, Fla., for the fan gathering to be known as Celebration V, said Steve Sansweet, director of content management and head of fan relations for Lucasfilm.
I am hoping for Chicago or Indy. Minneapolis may be drivable but I would have to fly to Baltimore or Orlando. I don't know if I could afford air fare and the new luggage charges. But then again, gas isn't cheap either.
