The regatta will be awesome!

The Seawolf class is 1/144 -- I don't know whom makes this one, but here's a link to one of the kits http://www.tudayshobbymodels.com/prd_tr ... eawolf_144

The LA I have is a R/C that I bought from Walmart some years back...I have two a Chicago and a Dallas - both work ok, made by Funmaker (the Dallas is currently in pieces pending use of the motors and some other parts in a new WTC). I think the scale is "funsize" ;)

The VIIC is 1/350 by Revell... it's the kit all of the submariners say is 2nd best if you're going to buy one in a kit (and not make one from scratch)

I can't find the link to the Robbe that I want to get, but it's also a VIIC and comes with everything you need to run right out of the box...some assembly required.

the Robbe one is sweet. some day ill get one. i really like his early war VIIB kit he offers from time to time. but, it is cheeper to scratch build one in the long run. i have around 150 in the hull itself, 250 in the wtc. i have a revell VIIC early war in 1/72nd and a Gato in the same scale. some day soon they will be running as well. were you aware Matt Thor lives in kansas? small world!

1/72nd VIIC... giggles...nawty giggles -- and a 1/72 Gato -- more giggles.

My goal is to have two submarines (I'm a huge fan of the VIIA/B/C/D series and Gatos are a close second) - anyway, I want a VIIC (I'd love a 1/72nd) and I want to mod a larger scale Typhoon, Seawolf or LA with a camera in a clear dome on the front.

I'd like to hook up the VIIC with firing torpedoes and have designed an auto-rail-load system for the front and back.

One year, I'd like to take some submarines to one of the large battles where you put your ship in the water and battle it out. Even if that's in Australia at the regatta there.

No, I didn't know Matt Thor lives in Kansas...sweet!

if your interested, i can send you pdf plans and hull sections to a 1/72nd scale typhoon. at 1/72nd she would be 8ft long.

i replaced the clippard valve that kevin included in the kit. the valve controls the 'blow' function on the ballast tank, and sits on top of the brass tube in the bottom of the ballast tank. the brass tube will be charged with propel and will be the source of the on board air supply. more soon!

Giggles. I'd love the plans, that'd be sweet.

I'm looking forward to seeing more!

and here she is with a light primer coat on. i had to resribe some details since they were starting to fade after this last coat of primer.

Image

the warpage is 100% better! not perfect, i can see where she is still off a hair twords the prop, but i think the diveplanes go in that area, so they might draw your eye away.

i also started installing the ribs to support the WTC. it wasnt easy to get it to be level, but with some trial and error i managed to get it very close.

Image

and here is a shot of some alignment tabs i made to keep the hull together. you can see the lower rail i installed in the above photo

i went ahead and cut the control surfaces free of the rudders and dive planes. that apoxie scuplt is some tuff stuff, and my dremel had trouble cutting it. none of my other saws seemed to cut it. they will be tough!

Image

there is a few spots i need to fix, a few boo-boo's but nothing bad!

i cant believe i am here! i thought id never see this moment. i have the dive planes and rudders attached!!!!! i checked, and triple checked to see if they were square. they appear to be, but the true test will be how they look with the upper hull attached. i will see in the morning.

i used some fiberglass resin i have from building the hull. in theory it should work i hope. more soon!
