Hey everyone, my name is Ben. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and have been interested in the 501st since my first Planet Comicon 6 pr 7 years ago. I have a habit of starting way too many projects before I finish one (I've got 3 or 4 SW costumes that are relatively far along now, but have been going for quite a while) so I've never really gotten in touch with the local groups since I was never particularly close to being able to apply. While I do have a Kylo that I'm very proud of and which is pretty close to done, I wound up using slightly different fabrics for the scarf/hood and the main robe. As such, I don't think it'll be approvable, sadly. However, I've finally settled on one to finish in a timely manner and (hopefully) up to legion standards: Krennic.

I started on his tunic over my thanksgiving break and I think it's going pretty well. I do have a WIP up on the IOC boards, but I figured I'd pop in here to introduce myself to the people I'll actually be trooping with someday. But enough rambling for now. Here's the bit of work I've done so far.

First, my rough mock up. Not the most flattering pics, but it was useful in working out the shape and size of my pieces:

And here's the tunic I've started to make out of gabardine. The front panel is a bit wonky here because it's too wide and things are just pinned together, but I like how the rest of it is shaping up.

And the only other bit I have so far is the set of rank bars I made:

Thanks for checking out my thread, and hopefully I'll have a lot more progress to share in about 2 weeks when I'm done with my fall semester. :)

I've started on my cape and I like how it's shaping up for the most part. Unfortunately I lost track of exactly how much overlap I should have with the yoke in my attempt to line up the shoulders where I wanted them and now it's significantly shorter than it should be. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take apart the top and see if it's salvageable now...

And the progress continues! I'm pretty pleased with the tunic right now. The cape is still being tweaked in hopes that I don't have to scrap it entirely, but it's proving difficult to get it situated exactly where I want it. The belt here is just a placeholder for the pictures, but here are a few shots from last night.

And one last festive shot to cap things off :)

Most of the 3D printed portions of my blaster are done, and I couldn't be happier! I'm planning on using a router and laser cutter for the rest of it.

So it's been a while since I've posted around here, but I have made solid progress on the Dt-29. First, I printed the main body, trigger and guard, and other miscellaneous pieces that I was originally planning to CNC route.

Image

Certain pieces like the barrel and scope assemblies where glued together, while others were simply sanded to remove filament lines.

Image

Despite my careful planning of the model, I still had to drill out a space for the spring in the lever that latches the thing shut and dremel out a channel for a tension spring to attach to the slider on that sits in the open slot.

Next up, I lasercut the grips and side panels out of some oak.

The trigger and slider were permanently affixed before I could glue the two halves together and even out the seam, so I went ahead and painted the trigger and some other bits that could be fully finished before they needed to be attached.

Image

I didn't snap ans many pics of the next steps, but there was a lot of filling, sanding, painting, and sealing before I could begin assembling in earnest. I also stained the wood panels to a darker shade. Also not pictured is the large spring I set in the barrel to replicate the function of the movie prop for swapping ammo packs.

As things stand now, I basically need to finish the ammo packs, throw in a red LED, add bolts (some for function, others for looks) and I'll be done! I've got to say, this is one of the prettiest props I've built and it's been really satisfying putting this thing together. :)

I don't have any pics to share yet, but I've also dipped my toes back into the soft parts of, working on a belt and a scaled up cape since my last one sadly could not be made to work.

I've spent the last few days re-working my cape, and I think this one will work out.  I still need to finish the bottom edge and add some more snaps, but this one is definitely long enough, and sits a lot better across the front. Unfortunately my tunic is a bit askew in these pics since I didn't think to straighten it out after I put on the cape, but other than that, I think I'm making solid progress.

In addition to the cape, I have been working on the jodhpurs, which now just need eyelets and laces down at the bottom

Image

And last night, I picked up some shoes from a thrift store to transform into boots. I patterned the top with duct tape, sewed the pieces out of some faux leather and batting, and adhered them to the shoes with contact cement. I'll be patterning the panels for the foot section later and then skinning the remainder of the shoe with more of the faux leather.

Great job on the spats for the boots! That was the exact process we had to use with my wife to make hers for her Jedi.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the encouragement!

I finally have a (small but fun) update! School and real life have kept me from progressing much on Krennic, but I recently got to use a Form 2 resin SLA 3d printer. I decided to take a crack at my code cylinders, as I had attempted to print them on a normal FDM printer but wasn't able to capture the fine grooves around the top even on high resolution settings. The prints off of the form 2 got it though! The sides will require a bit of sanding before I paint them metallic, but nowhere near the level of FDM prints like my blaster. I plan to make the clips out of aluminum sheets following Strongbow's guide for chalk-holder cylinders, but I'm really pleased that this worked out for the top section. :D
