That looks awesome, bro! There's a guy over at the RPF who also sells the mace ends, etc. They look pretty nice.

yeah, the mace end, Tony and I are using the same things for. It's acrylic for the fins mounted in PVC and a lawn spike on the end, but I think it came out really nice.

Have I gone too far?

I know there is a fine line between weathering an item and it just looking like crap. I would like honest opinions on if I have stepped over that line?

Thanks

Ok....I decided that I didn't really like how it looked. So I gave the helmet a bath....in a mixture of tea and coffee (per Z's Suggestion) I also bathed the remaining wraps and gave it another layer of wraps that were literally boiled in tea and coffee.

I think its better.

Here is a helpfull idea if you want to make the strips darker and weathered.

I use this trick for the stage all the time to make cloth darker in color and more gritty. Take the cloth strips you have and soke them in a mix of water and mud. you don't want the mix to thick that will just make the raps caked in dirt when they dry. The finer the mud the better. You want almost like a clay feel to it. You can just dry the strips in the sun. They will be a little stiff but once you start working with them that should go away.

just thought I would give you another alternative tea and coffee.

Doesn't soaking fabric in strong tea darken and weather it quite a bit?

It depends on how long you leave it in for. And tea can only do so much.

It looks darker and greyer in real life. The camera flash washes the picture out some. I am a lot happier with this revision and hope to finish the mask tonight and start working on other parts of the costume.

Is it going to be a ANH rader or a AOTC rader?

Its going to be an AOTC tusken. I have to make the robes, bandolier and pouches and complete the gaffi stick. I expect mine to get done shortly after Dave (Zazarus) completes his....even though we are about even as far a progress goes right now.

Tea and such will work better in the long run. If you usewd the mud trick, you would not be able to keep the color when it came time to wash your robes. :D
