Isn't that what they call a CNC machine????? Wouldn't THAT be nice to own......Imagine....you could make what ever you wanted as long as you could get the computer files.

Yes, it would. I've been thinking about building one for a while. Purchasing one is usually around 5 figures. You can build some for much less. There are a few good how to's on really cheap CNC machines.

I'm thinking about trying to scale up to near 24"x24" because that's how large my vacuum forming table is. I may end up designing and building something like this with my robotics team. Therefore it would be free (at least as far as my pocket book is concerned).

As far as the 3d models go, there are two ways I've seen that look good. I'm sure you are familiar with the ones that are provided by some talented artists.

The second way is to laser scan a model of some sort. Could you imagine scanning a toy and scaling it up or better yet, scan the "gentle giant". I was amazed to see the base software here is free.

Someday I'll get all this done. I'll have my own little production line inside my garage.

How much for one of those machines that carves out the form from a computer file?! WOW!! Can you imagine making a bucket with one of those!

Just make your entire screen accurate armor with it a very low cost. 8) When you get it done, what's your number? ;)
