So is a Guillermo Del Toro version of "The Hobbit" going to be as good as a Peter Jackson version? I liked what he did with Helboy but that's a different kind of movie.
At least I heard in July that Ian McKellen will be back as Gandalf.
Randall's description of LOTR in Clerks II sums up those movies for me...in fact April looked at me in the theatre during that scene and was like " OH MY GOD That's you!"
BEWARE THERE IS VERY STRONG LANGUAGE!!!! but if you haven't seen it youtube Clerks 2 LOTR Vs. Star Wars scene

Pan's Labyrinth rocked.Even in Spanish.
The Hobbit is a far simpler story than LOTR.Unless they get cheap with it,they should have a winner on their hands.
Peter Jackson is still involved, so I think the quality may be similar. I'll be interested in what they come up with for the second Hobbit movie though. I know there is some material they can use from LOTR, but I'm not sure about a whole movie.
I've heard conflicting rumors... one that it will be the story of the book spread across two movies (like they're doing to the 7th Harry Potter book), or that the first movie will be the bulk of the book and the second will be a little more plus other 'bridge' information to the LOTR trilogy (and likely some more Middle Earth backstory)
