Re: Wally's Cad Bane Build
Did you happen to get in on that Cade Bane mask run on the main 501st forums? That was a doozy of a mask build. It's too bad the guy only did such a limited run of those.

I actually did. Wyatt and I are collaborating on the project together...I can't wait to get the mask because I can do Cad in Clonetrooper disguise with it since he did off my Clone characterjudge_hellfast wrote:Did you happen to get in on that Cade Bane mask run on the main 501st forums? Well they say you can't rush perfection and so far it's true. I've adjusted the angle of the top.

I did a quick mock up with the wrist collar and 2 temp boxes on top to see if you all had any other suggestions before I proceed...

So I am an impatient person so I thought before I did my casting etc I would paint the model to see what it might look like. I went with a 2-tone scheme here is the result.
And finally a shot next to my lanky arm for comparison of length.

Re: Wally's Cad Bane Build
So on Saturday I recieved "the box"...let me say that Wyatt's mask is absolutely spot on. The details and the quality of the mask is incredible. The detail in the sculpt is spot on, to include the scars on cad's face. One of the details that blew my mind was the fact that the teeth were appropriately shaped and chipped.
The mask wears like a dream...the construction allows for my nose to sit comfortably allowing me to breath I could easily troop this for hours. The balaclava has the texture seen on the stills and the paint job is exquisite. The airbrush is just right not being a complete fill job give the mask the appropriate highlights.
I got so excited that I made a hat...it's nowhere near the quality of the mask but it gets the point across for these photos.
As feedback though I do need to figure out a way to truly obsure my eyes...I may try placing "smokey" reflective lenses behind the orange ones but who knows how that may look with a flash. I also have tinting that may work. Let me know what questions you have specifically about the mask and I'll be happy to discuss.

Re: Wally's Cad Bane Build
So I finally got over my fear of the unknown and made those plugs. My first attempt with alginate taught me real quick how the alginate behaves. I tried to make a 2-part mold and needless to say I ended up with a blob. So I decided to use the box method and insert the model into and it worked like a champ (thanks for the tip Wyatt). I did have to hold it real still till it set.
What blew my mind was that this spongy material actually capture the model.
I did the same for the top and mixed up the plaster and poured.
The final product came out very nice. There are a few clean up items that I'm going to sand before I start vac-forming. I love alginate and it's cheaper. Perfect for making plugs.
