Helmet Padding
So, I need some *local* advice on where to find some padding for the inside of a helmet. I'm thinking just some kind of foam padding, not a helmet liner or anything like that. And I'm looking local (not online) because I want something I can pick up this week and have installed before PCC this weekend...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Helmet Padding
Joanne fabric has green foam padding. You can also use pipe insulation or weather stripping foam from the hardware store....Just don't get the fiberglass LOL

I have the pipe insuation stuff, but out of curiosity how do others use it? I've cut it in half to make half moons, and glue each flat end, but it still never sticks well and tries to come off...

Re: Helmet Padding
EVA Foam hands down. You may be able to find Fun Foam pieces thick enough for padding. Unlike other foam, the EVA will not collect bacteria and fungus. Good luck on your search.

Re: Helmet Padding
I use mousepads and blue camping foam pads.
The mouspads work well if you only have room for a small amount of padding.
Blue camping foam is good for general padding, its sturdy yet soft and is available at any Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, etc....
Sometimes I will put in the mousepad layer and then the camping foam. This gives alot of cushion.
Hope this helps.

Chris A.

Re: Helmet Padding
I use the bump cap liners. Not the ones like in a hard hat with the big knob in the back these are smaller. They let more air around your head and are cooler than foam and you can hot glue them in just a few minutes. Just an idea.
If nothing sticks to teflon......then how does teflon stick to the pan?

Re: Helmet Padding
something like that is what I use for my RFT helmet, but there's not much room to work with in these pilot helmets we're working on, and they barely fit over our big heads, so I just want a little something, nothing major.madog5154 wrote:I use the bump cap liners. Re: Helmet Padding
I like using weather stripping it comes in different widths and thickness and already has sticky on the back side plus I like the channels it makes with my fans a distributes air evenly

Re: Helmet Padding
I gutted a bell bicycle helmet and created a helmet harness. not sure how well its going to work but it seems to do well in my test fits. We will see how it works for trooping and then I will have a better idea if it's a keeper or not. I have not had any problems as of yet.

Re: Helmet Padding
I used the liner out of an old hockey helmet. It was a CCM referee helmet. Not sure what kind of foam inserts are in the new helmets, but this foam insert worked perfectly in my helmet with minimal modification.
