Phase II Captain Rex (TCW) - Approved
Hi! My name is Josh and I'm 17 and working on my Captain Rex armor. I already have a thread on the Clone Trooper Detachment Forums but I'm starting one up here to document progress as this is the area I'm in.
Here is where I am at now, and you can follow all previous progress over at: https://501stclonetroopers.com/forum/in ... ent-313947
I still have a lot of work left to do, but I cannot wait to hear your guy's opinions on this!! So excited to continue this journey!

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
A week after my armor arrived, here is my trimming progress!
The kit is from Imperial Surplus, and it mostly all vacu-formed ABS.
After receiving the kit I marked where to cut and began doing basic trimming. I understand it isn't final, I'm doing most of it and after glueing and filling (using Evercoat Gloss, a flexible bondo) I will do more work so the return edges all match nice and pretty!
Most trimming began with score and snap (using a box cutter and then bending it back to snap it off), then using a dremel and hand sanding to make it all nice and neat.
What do you all think? Any notes?

Definitely think that is the right way to go about it. Definitely measure 3 times and cut once haha. Score and snap makes some clean lines that's for sure, just make sure the scores are deep enough for a snap instead of tear. Won't be as critical though because you'll be filling and such but makes it easier.

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
Another week, more work:
Finished trimming and was able to do a rough test fit in the armor. Some pieces came apart but was still able to get a good idea of what it felt like to be in the armor.
After that I was able to CA Glue the diaper together, and I also glued together the ab pieces.
Also did some filling work using epoxy for the shoulder bells (to make a stronger fill than bondo in the larger crevice) and fiberglass for a large dent in my pauldron:
Making good progress! This next week is busy with school but I'm still hoping to make my April 29th deadline to hopefully apply for approved when I turn 18!

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
So it's been awhile since my last update, but I've been working on the armor still! I did my seam filling using Evercoat Glaze, its a bondo that doesn't crack when flexing so it should hold up very well in the years to come. Also did another test fit, this time with a lot less tape! I don't have the harness system attached yet as I don't want to add velcro before paint but I'm super excited with how this is going!
Any notes or tips from what you see? Can't wait to keep going!

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
Paint progress! Before painting I went over each piece and ended up doing some 14-16 hours of sanding so I'm happy to begin laying down some color. So far just getting base colors and taking my time. Have yet to do the blue but it is the last paint layer before weathering!
Here is some of the pieces...
Got some greeblies painted...
And got the pauldron started (just a bit of weathering needed)...
Can't wait to continue! Hope you're all well and healthy!

All good! I just did the weathering (if you wanna see it check out the link up at the top of this thread, there are some 20 photos and you'll see them all once I take full pictures in armor), and I can't wait to do the harnessing and foam and everything else!!

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
Alright so today I was able to add in vecro and the strapping and get things all lined up as well as begin the kama. Here are some photos of the assembly!
Everything back on the floor:
Getting the biceps and shoulders on the harness:
Getting the legs all strapped up:
A look at the helmet over the chest piece:
Pauldron all assembled:
Began work on fitting the kama:
So far I'm super happy with how this build is progressing, any comments? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I'm super excited to begin trooping with you come that time again. Hope you're all well and healthy!

Re: Phase II Captain Rex (Animated) WIP
Continued work on fitting the kama, here was my first full test fit:
After that I rounded the edges, made marks 2" vertically and 4.5" horizontally and then rounded the edges meeting at those endpoints:
Now to stitch on the blue!
