Did that acrylic plastic seem to manipulate under heat okay for ya? I can see where it's somewhat rippled at the top of the dome. Like you said, I would go with a thinner plastic. The plastic will continue to ripple until it's actually stretched where it will actually then give that dome like appearance.

The plastic seems to be nice and clear. Are you able to see through it pretty well?

I'm sure attempt number 2 will give better results.

the acrylic reacted fairly well to the heat. i believe it is just too darn thick. it spent over 30 minutes at 350 degrees and was still very tough and rubbery. I am sure that had a lot to do with the bucket failing on us. truthfully, it did not get lumpy or malformed until after we turned it off. the vac was sustaining a very smooth symmetrical dome until the collapse occurred. It is is VERY clear to see through, even in its mangled state. This may be a result of the thickness, though.

I have found a source for a pre-made dome that looks promising, so I will probably resort to that for deadlines-sake and remain determined to make my own without a schedule to rush it. There are more updates to come. (hopefully with fewer failures.)

Well, I made the belt buckle/temperature gauge this evening. It is comprised of a push button LED light, silver paint, a bit of packaging material, a piece of garage sale sign, some orange paint, some craft foam, hot glue, and a gauge face that I drew up and printed out. It's small progress, but I am fairly satisfied with the results. What do you guys think?

Also, I am scrapping the scratch made cold gun for now. It requires redesign. Apparently, when toy sculptors make weapons for action figure, they are unconcerned with trivial things like fingers and the ability of the user to actually hold the weapon. I am looking at a certain Nerf pistol as a base now, hopefully. I can rebuild it as a cold gun.

That looks awesome!!!! I can't wait to see more. Have you figured out how to make the frost effects yet? The temperature guage could have that fog/frost effect added to the guage itself in the window area. Nicely done!

I would use that stuff you can put on your windows around Christmas to frost the inside. Most craft stores have it.
