70th Explorers Garrison - Gateway Squad announcement
Fellow Garrison members and 501st Legion members,
It is my pleasure on my very last day as the 70th Explorers Commanding Officer to announce the garrison level approval of our first squad in the 70th Explorers Garrison:
Gateway Squad
(St. Louis/east side area)
Proposed Squad Leader: Brian Steele, SL9633
Proposed Logo: http://70thexplorers.com/gws/images/GWS_logo_final.jpg
Proposed website page on the 70th Explorers home garrison site:

Members of this St. Louis/east side area unit have been working hard on their planning since August 20th in their private squad planning forum here on the 70th forums. I had submitted their application on January 31st and it was just posted in the Legion Council forum today for the Legion Command and Legion Council to review. This squad's formation has my full support. The Gateway Squad troopers have done an excellent job in organizing themselves and have functioned as an unofficial squad for almost a year and a half now.
Members of the proposed squad area have rallied and brainstormed ideas in a positive and respectful manner. They had focus discussion threads on their proposed geography, the logo, the mission statement, and the website page. The original SL was to be Ryan Krushas, SL3401, but due to personal reasons he had to sell his costume and that left a vacancy in the SL position. Brian Steele, SL9633, stepped forward and took over the great work that Ryan had started and got things back on track.
The troopers in the Gateway Squad area have successfully organized and coordinated 16 of our 62 garrison events in 2007 and have events lined up for this year as well. They have great working relationships with our sister organizations (Fan Force and Rebel Legion) on that side of the state and enjoy many joint appearances with them.
I am very proud of each and every one of the Gateway Squad members and although their Legion Council level approval will come after my term has ended, I am confident that it will still pass with flying colors since all three CO candidates wholeheartedly support the formation of squads in the 70th Explorers Garrison as well.
The Legion Council will discuss the formation of the Gateway Squad for five days and then there will be a 10-day poll for Legion Council members to vote to approve or not approve this squad. I look forward to the new 70th CO announcing this squad's upcoming approval so that they may begin their official probation period.
Best of luck to the Gateway Squad! Congratulations!

I would like to thank Rhonda for all her support in getting this passed on to the Legion Council. I would also like to take the time to thank the rest of the command staff and all of my prospective squad mates for their effort and support in getting everything finalized. Hopefully everything moves as smooth in the future as it has thus far. While I do have confidence, please also note that nothing is officially approved by the legion as of now and therefore, nothing is final yet. Thank you all for the congrats and as Brandon stated...lets keep our fingers crossed!
