The video of the first real motor test is up. It moves ;) We did the test last night and it was way too squirrely to control. I re-wrote the control interface to drive like a true tank using two sticks. I am going to make some adjustments to secure some parts down better and hopefully will have some more video of him moving with the new controls soon.

Now you can wreck it into someone you don't like and say its the controls fault.

Its been a couple of weeks since I last gave an update so I figured I would fill you in on the changes I have been making.

T3's Control program has been rewritten numerous times and lots of changes and improvements have been made to the control interface. Including

True differential drive control (two stick tank controls)
Reverse
Ability to move and play sounds at the same time (involved making program multi threaded)
Added 3 speed selections to the controls

I have changed the rear drive pods so that the wheels are in the front and motors are in the back. This changed T3's center of gravity and improved his traction significantly.

I rounded over T3's head and put the layers together. I built T3's neck. Cut the covers for rear drive pods.

My plans for this weekend are:
Purchase belt sander to surface head and neck.
Surface head and neck
Cut and drill spots for Holoprojector and LEDs
Build Holoprojector
Cover rear drive pods
Primer paint T3

Wish me luck ( I am going to need it).

Potential lucky find

We were cleaning out one of our storage closets here at work. During the cleanup an old server battery backup unit dropped and cracked in half. Inside of the unit was (10) 5mah sealed lead acid batteries. My company was throwing this equipment away anyway so now all 10 are mine.

T3 will run at full speed for about 30 minutes off one set of 5mah batteries. If they hold a charge I can make T3 run for a very long time :)

Put panels on the rear feet.

After a few load bearing tests I realized that T3 can push/pull moderately heavy loads. His motors at full torque have the ability to move an average size man. His drive pods aren't designed to take that kind of weight without re-enforcement but I could certainly have him tow my luggage or ride behind him on a skateboard/cart.

Going to try my best to perform the long awaited shoulder joint fix this weekend.

Once that is fixed I will record some new video. I was working on an extensive project for work (we put in a new phone system) and it took a lot of my time.

My goal is to have him running around visioncon.

I think I have the shoulder thing pretty much worked out going to try and make some adjustments to his panels and give him a test run tonight.

I am waiting to get my camera back from the repair shop so that I can shoot more video.

Are we going to be able to see this guy at Planet ComicCon? I'm interested to see your progress in person. You're going to at least bring him, right? ;)
