Lord Revan Project

Post by Dwootan »

I have started down the dark path towards my very own Sith Lord! :emperor:

I'm learning that in this hobby when you finish a suit and it's on to the next. This time however, I'm not using a kit. I'm making everything except the mask. I've purchased a mask approved by Flagship Eclipse Detachment. It just arrived...

Image

For the armor; I'll be working with fiberglass for the first time.

For the cloth parts; good thing my grandmother taught me how to sew. :)

For the lightsaber(s); Tony thanks again for the link to TCSS. 8)

Now I just have to be prepared to hear "It's Darth Vader" instead of "It's a Power Ranger." :angry2: And find time to actually work on it.

Mask looks cool now I just have to follow you around all the time with T3M4 (once he is done) at the cons. Now all we need is somebody to do Bastilla!

Lord Revan had his mind by Jedi, I can't say he is on the normal side of things.

The Flagship Eclipse Detachment Leader, Twi'lek Pam, is a very good person to speak to about the details of the Darth Revan costume should you have any questions. She knows the ins and outs of the costume standards, which happen to be posted here for reference:

Best of luck to you on this new costume. I look forward to seeing it. :)

Okay, fiberglass is some interesting stuff. Good thing I purchased that respirator from Lowe's before starting the project. It has a really strong smell! My poor garage...

The hand plates are 70 % done; I need to trim the fiberglass, sand, and apply extra detailing to the details. I'm starting to work on the vambraces, however my garage faces the setting sun, so it's too hot to work on them. I hope to be able to get the vambraces finished tomorrow or Wednesday night. I've decided to make the fully enclosed body armor. So, it might take me some time to finish this project.

Rhonda thanks for the info! I'll be referring to that page alot.

I've had some things with work, etc that came up which has prevented me from working on the armor. That said, I am starting to fit the vambraces to my forearms and I've started the torso armor front. Once I get those finished I will post some photos.

I'll be out of town for the next few weeks, then returning for a few days, and then out of town again. So I'm not sure when I'll be able to devote more time to it.

The good thing is, is that I'm getting to be pretty good with fiberglass. :)

The good thing is, is that I've not obliterated much. Actually, I've not had any real problems with the fiberglass, once I figured out how to mix the resin. I did however burn a whole through a couple of plastic cups, which was a fun experience.

I finally found a few hours this week to work on this costume. At this point, I have finished with the fiberglass stages. I should be able to begin fitting the front and back torso armor pieces tomorrow. Once that is done, I have some sanding, add a few details, and then the painting begins.

I'll try to get some pics up this week.

Right now the armor is basically in kit form; i.e. needs to be trimmed, fitted, etc. I decided to primer the pieces to make it easier for the sanding and final triming process. The below photos were taken with my cell phone, so the details aren't as clear.

In this first photo I have the upper torso armor, the hand guards, and the re-made vambraces. The vambraces will be assembled like TC forearms; the hand arm, like the TK and TC's hand plates. The upper torso will be attached to the armor front shown below.

In this second photo I have the front and back of the torso armor. I plan on making these seamless or similar to the TK and TC armor.

As you can see, I've finally finished the torso. Here's the plan: The vambraces and the hand pieces will be completed this week. The fabric will be completed this weekend. The suit will be worn at Comicon.

Two problems so far, the amount of time that I've had available and dropping the dremel on my hand this last weekend. Not to worry, I'll have a circle scar on my hand.

I'll post additional pictures soon.
