WIP

This is what I used to start this project. The mask itself is a piece of crap and is flimsy as all hell. It sure looks good in the following pic, however. The hat flops all over the place and the face looks like a melted tootsie roll. It's horrid:



I'm still working on the color scheme as I have a long way to go with the paint job. I still need to mod the mouth and beard and I'll be incorporating permawet to make the face look slimy and wet. However, after foam filling the hell out of the hat and backing the mouth tentacles to give them more body, this is where I'm at currently. I still have a lot of painting left to do on the entire mask and I think it will turn out pretty nice. This weekend I will be working on the lobster claw. I plan to vacform the entire claw and elbow assembly. I'll be incorporating two way stretch spandex in and around the elbow joint as well. The pic sucks, but it's going to come together nicely once I get some of the other elements put together for this costume. The frock coat I'm wearing is only for show. This will be coming up in the near future:

I've got a jar of dirt

I'm needing to apply layers to this bad boy to get the right effect. The hat will get a little flora type material added to it, but the paint is done for now for the hat. I'm applying my first bit of undercoating to the mask. I'll have a ton of detail work to do to the face due to the numerous colors used. Anyhow, this is where I am at now:

Okay, I lied...I had to go back and add to the hat. I will be weathering the flora and adding some additives to make it all look wet. The painting is coming along slowly. Unfortunately Jones has a ton of color variations in his skin which is making it difficult to replicate. I'll get the right tone eventually, it will just take me a little time. Anyhow, here's a pic of the flora in progress. I've also added a few shells and will be adding more soon:

Okay, progress update. I have a ton of tentacles to paint and have plenty of shadows and highlights to add. I still have a long way to go before the mask is finished. The shirt is on its way to being sewn together and tonight I begin making my lobster claw mold. YAY!!!! Hope you enjoy:

Highlighted the tentacles and face. Need to do more highlighting and dark shading. Not much accomplished, but I need to get to the tentacle suckers, a little more flora and I should have this baby down pat. The lobster claw is coming along nicely. I'll have pics up once I fit the clam shell halves together. This weekend I should be able to have my mold all set for it. Here's where I'm at with the mask:

I now have a base coat on the tentacles. Once I finish the tentacles, I will be going over the entire mask and touching up colors and adding highlights, shadows and then going over the whole mask with an overcoating to give it a nice wet glossy look. The lobster claw is starting to turn out nicely as well. I'm hoping to have pics up of that by this weekend. The undershirt is also finished.

Mask is almost done...still a little painting left to do. The material for the vest, pants and frock coat are purchased and ready to assemble. The undershirt is done. The Lobster Claw bucks are done and I should have an assembled claw by next weekend and ready for paint. Later I will make the claw articulate, but I just want to have something put together for immediate use if needed. Here are my Claw bucks...not pretty, but they'll get the job done:

Okay, I made some progress today. I layered the back of the mask in case tentacles flip over. I'm now starting to include the brownish overtones. This should start giving it that slimy fishlike look. The mask looks awesome with the other pieces of the costume put together. I'm starting to get excited. Tonight I'm hoping to have a good portion of progress on the Lobster Claw as well. I'll update tonight. Here's the progress on the mask so far:

UPDATE:

These items are all sewn together:
1. Vest
2. Undershirt
3. Pants
4. Frock Coat

Things I need to do:
1. Sew backing on my cumberbun
2. Sew gold lining on frock coat/buttons
3. Source boots and mod
4. Mod the Lobster Claw -This has been clam shelled and ready for mods.
5. Create a Lobster Leg
6. Extensive Weathering to the entire outfit
7. Create tentacle hand

I will update with pics this weekend. It's starting to come together nicely and is looking pretty cool.
