I GOT IT! PIC HEAVY!
Just got my OSCS Phase 2 clone helmet
I was a really good pull, very few imperfections no bondo needed really. I was surprised to find it came with the magnets you use for reattaching the face plate. The neck size its around 1 1/2" bigger in diameter than my neck, we'll see how bad it is after I get it on my head if I need to make it wide .

Re: I GOT IT!
Brandon and I are starting on the sanding tonight!
For 501st approval I am making a standard Blue 501st style suit.
But I am also buying gear to make it a Commander Appo (he doesn't have 3 references yet) for non cannon events.
It will be epic!

Re: I GOT IT!
Ok, I worked on it Friday night and Sunday afternoon I sanded the seam down, then sanded the whole thing. Cut the face off cut the T Visor out. Brandon dremeled the frown and the neck to make it clean and smooth. he also cleaned up some of the imperfections. Here are some pics.

Re: I GOT IT!
Ok, I haven't posted in a wile here are some more pics.
I took a pick of every thing it came with. The chin detail, aerators, T visor, vent decals, screen mesh, rivets (for the chin) and some awesome rare earth magnets.
I attached the magnets with plumber's epoxy.
Painted the inside black.
I had a problem with a crap can of white primer witch caused a real orange peel look. So I sanded the whole thing and got a new can and repainted it. Once again it orange peeled we put three coats on and I'm just going to sand it smooth and hit it again later.

Re: I GOT IT!
Any idea why it's doing that whole "orange peel" texture?

Re: I GOT IT!
The first one was a bad can of paint. The second I have no idea.

Re: I GOT IT!
Out of curiosity, which brand of paint did you use? Somewhere I thought I read that certain types tend to give that orange peel look more often than others, but I can't recall where I heard that.
Aside from that small thing, nice job on the helmet so far.

Re: I GOT IT!
id be currious to know what brand you used. i have found that krylon paints are junk. also, if your primer coat wasnt wetsanded smooth with 1000 grit, it will give you the same look. paints ment to go on plastic without primer (fusion, or rustoleum plastic paints) wont work on rotocast resin because it isnt plastic and they tend to give the same texture when sprayed on rotocast.
and i love the way you did the helmet. looks good so far!

Re: I GOT IT!
We used a Krylon white flat primer after wet sanding the helmet almost perfectly smooth.
