Armor cleaning tips

I read through most of the threads here and I haven't seen anything on cleaning and upkeep. This is incredibly important to for any troop!

I'm going to start this as a question - any tips on keeping the foam padding in buckets clean? Does anyone use any sort of disinfectant spray or cleaner? If so what kind? Obviously I'm going to be putting my face in there at some point so I don't want something that will cause a rash or make me blind :)

I use a non-scented anti-bacterial spray on a cloth and wipe it down.

I also replace my padding at least once a year.

When I had my TK I used Novus #2 Acrylic Fine Scratch Remover to polish my armor
I've used Goo-gone, Rubbing Alcohol, and Windex (being ammonia) to clean the armor in the past for different purposes.
they have antibacterial Windex now

When I bought mine it already had some foam padding in it. Any particular type you recommend?

In my helmets, if I can get by without any padding at all, I will. In my TK I use a hard hat liner. If a helmet line wont work, like in my Vader and Jango Fett, I use softer padding like a camping mattress pad or the softer padding you can buy by the foot at a fabric store. I use the camping padding for my SCA helms as well because it can take alot of punishment. To make it easier to replace on a regular basis, I do not glue the padding into place. I use Duck Tape so I can pull the padding out.

The padding I use for structure like on the inside of my leg armor or shoulder armor I use scrap padding I find in electronic packing boxes. Its still a little flexible, but its pretty rigid and I wouldnt want it next to my face. Its too coarse. :)

Hope this helps.

the ct helmet doesn't really have the room so I used the foam you use in electronic packing boxes. It works ok I miss the helmet liner I had in my tk tho
