Dang it - why couldn't they do it in early July when I'll be there for 2 weeks on "vacation" at my in-law's house ?!?
(and only 16.5 miles from the convention center according to MapQuest)... bad enough I miss Star Wars Weekends there at Disney every year...
This is almost as bad as the year Pater Mayhew called me from the DFW airport to rub it in about how HE was going to Dragon-Con, and then I wrecked my car that afternoon...

OK, so expedia had a rate listed for a hotel less than a mile from the convention center at $35/night. Too cheap to pass up before they sell out/jack up the rates. So I took it, and we'll cancel later if things fall through.
So... Besides the fact that I don't like to fly, it's also expensive and even more so when you've got big 'ol costume totes to send along with your luggage... so what I'm wondering if we can find a couple people that want to carpool down, because we figure gas should run $300-$400 round trip in our minvan... we can fit four (ourselves and two more) and take out the back-most seat to fit everyone's luggage and costume stuff (if you have costume stuff that's not huge). That'd bring that cost down to substantially less than flying, and yes it's a 20+ hour drive but it can either be split in two stopping for a night or driven in shifts split between everyone...
The other thing is that I'd like to maybe have the return route go through New Orleans, since the day after the con is Sarah's b-day and it'd be a nice treat for her to have dinner for her b-day on the French Quarter... I'd maybe even splurge for night's stay there (especially if we drive straight through on the down trip)...
I would so like to make it to a Celebration event. May have to go ahead and plan a trip and skip out on SDCC, as I can only afford (in vacation time, at least) to go to one or the other.
I haven't missed a Star Wars Celebration yet either. My daughter and I are going. I have already reserved our convention tickets and rooms. I just need to book the flights. It should be a lot of fun in Florida. Celebrations are always a great time.
